Patients and Visitors
During Your Stay

Interpreters
If you need an interpreter, please ask your nurse or other hospital staff.  A specialized telephone system is available to allow interpretation for any language needed.

Valuables
You are advised against bringing large amounts of money or other valuables to the hospital.  Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta cannot assume responsiblity for the loss of any valuables not deposited with the cashier for hospital safekeeping.  Please bring you insurance cards with you, however, as they are necessary for billing purposes.

Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare
If you already have a DPAHC, please bring a copy with you.  If you would like to complete a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare please ask for the Social Services Worker to assist you.

Spiritual Care Services
The healing of the whole person physically, psychologically and spiritually is important to us.  A chaplain is available to minister to any spiritual concerns you may have.  Notify your nurse if you wish to talk with the chaplain.  Our chapel is open to you 24 hours a day.

 

What to Bring
Please bring only the minimum essentials with you.  If you are anticipating an overnight stay you may bring personal toilet articles and containers for storing health aids (eye glasses, hearing devices etc.). Limit your extra clothing to a comfortable dressing gown or pajamas, a robe and slippers.

What Not To Bring
Please do not bring actual medications to the hospital unless instructed to do so by your physician.  Please bring a list of medications you are presently taking. 

 

Patient Responsiblities

Pain Control: As a patient at this hospital, we expect that you will ask your doctor or nurse what to expect regarding pain and pain management:

  • Discuss pain relief options with your doctor or nurse
  • Work with your doctor and nurse to develop a pain management plan
  • Ask for pain relief when pain first begins
  • Help your doctor and nurse assess your pain
  • Tell your doctor or nurse if your pain in not relieved
  • Tell your doctor or nurse about any worries you have about taking pain medication

As a patient at Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta, you can expect a complete assessment of your pain symptoms to allow us to help manage your pain effectively.
